How to bring up herpes with doctor?

Well its not necesarilly the doctor im worried about talking to, its the receptionists. When you make the doctors appointment they always ask 'whats the reason for seeing the doctor' and i dont want to plainly say "yeah im wondering if I have herpes" because its extremly embaressing. Theres 2 reasons why I am wondering this, 1. Im friends with my exboyfriends exgirlfriend (they dated before I dated him) and she told me she got dignosed with genital herpes and she believes it was from the same guy (there were around 5 guys inbetween him and now though..) and now there is a blister type bump thing right at teh bottom of the pubic hair region were the vagina starts. Not so much of a blister as a bump but i am woried. It feels like a mini m%26amp;m is stuck under my skin (sorry only comparssion I could think of) and earlyer i was able to make it puss a tiny tiny bit. I have had the odd one of these before but I just assume they were ingrown hairs due to I shave. What exactly would I say ??

Just tell her you're there for a checkup. If your friend has slept with that many guys and the guy you slept with has been around the block a few times it would be good for you to be tested for other std's as well since some of them don't present obvious symptoms for years but are still doing damage.

That said, your "blister type bump thing" sounds like a zit. Lots of people get them down there every once in a while.

Tell the receptionist it is private. It is none of their business and you have the right to do that.

just say u wanna get checked for STD's. theyll think its good that u care about your health like that.

Sounds like another ingrown because herpes don't puss that I know of. I like the answer another gave about just telling them it's none of their business, but it sounds like you need a new doctor's office if you're worried about the receptionist judging you

just say you want a check up. then when it's just you and the doc in the room, tell him or her the truth.

Just tell them its personal and you dont want to discuss it with anyone but your doctor.

But honestly...it just sounds like you have an ingrown hair. Herpes are more of an open blister and come in clusters. Just tell the doctor what you wrote here and that you are concerned and want to make sure you didnt contract anything. If you are uncomfortable talking about it, write it down and have the doctor read it. But trust me, your doctor has heard it all and it will not be anything new to them.

just tell her that you feel a little sick and have a rash. you don't have to tell her where, or give her any other explanation then that. if she asks where, just tell her your elbow. doctors are used to this. Herpes is very painful and usually has a very large rash. it is like little bumps of fire. so if you are unsure of this thing it is most likely not herpes, but that does not mean that you do not have herpes, or that they thing is not a boil or some other concerning health problem. You can get a blood test that will tell if you have had a herpes outbreak in the last six months and what type it was. good luck. by the way 80% of the worlds population has herpes 1 or 2.

first, be sure you go to a gynecologist, not just any doctor. then, you can tell the receptionist that "it's a gyne case" and you want to keep it private.

That bump sounds more like an ingrown hair. or sebaceous cyst. simply a cyst with pus. Herpes really hurts, and you know it hurts as soon as you touch it. Don't be afraid to tell the receptionist, they cannot tell anyone, and, they have heard it all before. You could say, you just got informed that you might have contracted a sexually transmitted disease. The doctor will need to know what to set up for. Or, you could say, you think you might have a yeast infection, then, when you get there, tell the nurse the real reason. Or you could say you have a cyst "down south",and would like to be seen. don't worry about the office staff, they are trained to not make judgments. Please have yourself checked out.

A little hint, being rude to the front desk, is not acceptable. These people are paid to find out what the problem is before the doctor sees you. They don't care what the problem is, they simply need to know, so the nurse and doctor can be prepared for you. There are allot of things to set up a room for, and being rude to the front desk will most likely put them off of giving you an appointment any time soon. They don't care, they are a DOCTORS office, therefore, they see it all. Why be rude to someone who needs to know, so she can put you in as soon as you need to be seen?? And another thing. telling them its personal will only make your wait. and the other Pt's wait longer, for every test, every pt, it takes about 15 minutes of the nurses time and yours before you can be seen..

been there. done that and it really is so silly. They are professionals, that is what they are there for, YOU. Be nice, and close your eyes and spill it, just tell them you need a test for a "down south" issue, that will allow the nurse and doctor to be ready for you.

just have to be honest with the doctor or gyno, keep in mind they have seen it all before. just tell them that u may have gotten herpes but are not sure and need them to take a look or u need them to test whatever is down there. u might want to request a female doctor or gyno or if there is one u feel more comfortable with .
